KANNAWIDAN FESTIVAL 2019

The old and the new in Ilocano culture are both featured in this year’s Kannawidan Ylocos Festival - the festival of Ilocos Sur that celebrates its being a separate province and its being a treasure chest of traditions and culture. Philippines is the fourth most at-risk country in the world in terms of climate-related natural disasters . Already it is estimated that multi-hazard average annual loss for the Philippines is US$7.893 million, which is equivalent to 69 per cent of social expenditure in the country. Many disaster have passed but having the Filipino Spirit we still manage to laugh , smile and be happy. The definition of resilience is also taken from UNISDR terminology to mean “the ability of a system, community or society exposed to hazards to resist, absorb, accommodate to and recover from the effects of a hazard in a timely and efficient manner, including through the preservation and restoration of its essential basic structures and functions”.
